Description
This precision-engineered engine timing chain kit is manufactured to exact original equipment specifications to ensure absolute valve timing precision and smooth camshaft drive operation across BMW 4-cylinder engines. Constructed with high-strength, heat-treated alloy steel links and wear-resistant synthetic composite guide channels, this complete replacement kit directly addresses the high rate of chain stretch, plastic guide wear, and tensioner failure typical on these Valvetronic engines. Installing this kit eliminates cold-start timing chain rattle, restores proper engine efficiency, eliminates VANOS timing correlation fault codes, and protects the engine from severe valve-to-piston damage caused by timing jump or chain failure.

Application Note: Specifically engineered for BMW N42 and N46 naturally aspirated 4-cylinder 16V DOHC Valvetronic petrol engines (1.8L and 2.0L variants). (Note: Does not fit later N43 direct-injection engines). Important Fitment Note: Includes primary timing chain, upgraded hydraulic timing chain tensioner, timing chain guide rail, slide rail, and lower crankshaft timing gear. When replacing the timing chain on N42/N46 engines, always remove the oil sump to clean out any broken plastic guide rail debris that may clog the oil pump pickup screen. Dedicated BMW Valvetronic timing locking tools must be used to lock the camshafts, Valvetronic eccentric shaft, and crankshaft at Top Dead Center (TDC) during installation.
